Glistening pale gold. Vibrant and fragrant pure fruit stands to the fore of this attractive nose, yet there’s also the distinctive spice of quality oak.
As a one year old wine this displays the hallmark lively fruitiness of the chardonnay grape (in the cold-gown stone fruit mould) yet is now showing the benefits of oak and bottle maturation and the additional complexities these steps deliver.
It’s ready to go right now – all life and vitality, textured, rich and long. Will cellar if you want to but will likely prove hard to resist.
2005 SOLD OUT
Mount Horrocks 2005 Chardonnay
Very attractive bright white gold with a distinctive lime tinge. Aromas of freshly white peach and pear along with complex cashew nut and spicy oak and creamy winemaking influences.
Fresh, firm and youthful on the palate, it displays distinctive varietal stone fruit and melon flavours smartly supported by quality French oak and restrained malolactic influences. Given that this wine was 100% barrel fermented (and 20% new), the oak characters are, like the 2004, surprisingly restrained, allowing the fruit to remain to the fore. This is a complex-flavoured yet elegant, well-integrated wine of great style and finesse. Enjoy now to 5 or 6 years of age and with the confidence of the screw cap closure.
