2005 Clare Valley

Cabernet Sauvignon

90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot

The Mount Horrocks Cabernet Sauvignon was hand crafted from cabernet sauvignon (90%) and merlot (10%) fruit grown in the Clare Valley from low yielding unirrigated vines

2005 Mount Horrocks Cabernet Sauvignon

Bright crimson red with purple hues.

Vibrant blackcurrent, camphor, leaf and spicy oak characters combine in this distinctively varietal nose.

Hallmark cabernet notes run through to the palate which has the typical structure and mounthfeel of the variety – firm gently chalky tannin, power on entry and finish – which features bright acidity, indicating both its youth and potential to age gracefully. Elegant, generous classic cabernet, with distinctive current, mint and tea leaf flavours, first class French oak influences, great finesse and tremendous length, Definitely a terrific wine to cellar, for ten or more years.

2004 Mount Horrocks Cabernet Sauvignon was matured in French oak barriques (35% new) for 18 months resulting in an attractive deep dark purple in appearance.

Bright crimson red with purple hues.

Exceptionally lifted and fragrant with lively berry fruits and camphor and spice-like oak on the nose.

Time in the bottle has allowed the intense fruit and distinctive, quality oak to meld together into a very stylish wine indeed. Distinctive current, mint and tea leaf varietal cabernet flavours combine with first class French oak influences in a wine of great finesse and length. It shows that rare balance of warm, generous, ripe fruit flavours along with the structure and elegance one expects of great cabernet. Certainly one for the cellar (8-10years) but drinks mighty fine now, especially with osso bucco.
