2008 Mount Horrocks Clare Valley Shiraz

Rich violet-red. Alluring deep dark fruit scents, lifted spice and fragrant perfume notes. A definitive example of modern Australian shiraz where ripeness and alcohol, tannin and oak are thankfully kept in check.

Blackberry, blueberry and sour cherry fruits mingle with clove-like spice and brambly, tobacco-leaf, earthy notes on a mid-weight palate that is incredibly supple, gentle and long.  It’s all class and style, vibrant and filled with vitality, appealing right now but showing all the hallmarks of age-worthiness – eight to ten years or more.  Charry meats would provide a perfect foil.

2007 Mount Horrocks Clare Valley Shiraz

Deep bright magenta. Fragrant, essence-like aromas of dark fruits, nutty spicy oak and a beguiling floral perfume lift.

This Shiraz, whilst medium-bodied still packs a punch of flavour, with its plum, blackberry and sour cherry fruits, trademark spice and herbal notes and vibrant tannins. It is smooth, round and long, supple of texture and gentle on the palate. The tannins are ripe and round and the finish persists well. Calls out for barbecued lamb or veal right now yet will age well for a decade.

"Stephanie Toole was a finalist in the 2007 Gourmet Traveller WINE Winemaker of the Year, her ’06 Shiraz provides ample justification for the nomination."
