2014 Mount Horrocks Clare Valley Shiraz

94 POINTS

By Campbell Mattison

The oak is certainly obvious, the style certainly plush. Neither of these aspects are really the norm for Mount Horrocks, which generally tends towards the savoury. But this 2014 release isn’t your ‘usual’ Mount Horrocks Shiraz. This is deeper and richer, with the firmness to match. It’s a wine of some standing, so to speak. Some command. The oak – smoky and raw – feels quality, as indeed does the fruit. Give it some time, and it will shine.
