Mount Horrocks Cordon Cut Riesling 2018

Sourced entirely from her Watervale vineyard, this is Stephanie’s 26th vintage of this outstanding dessert wine by Stephanie.

The underlying principal of this special wine is that the canes are completely severed and the bunches of grapes are left hanging on the vine. This causes them to shrivel like raisins, naturally concentrating the flavour.

It’s a complex, highly risky process requiring both skill and experience. The decision to pick is made by Stephanie based on appearance and taste. Technical analysis in this case is of little value. Intimate knowledge of the process on the other hand is critical. Perfect picking conditions meant the fruit arrived at the winery in excellent raisined condition.

Tasting Notes

Bright pale white gold. Concentrated lemon-lime with vanilla spice.

This wine is easy to pick – so distinctive is the Mount Horrocks Cordon Cut style – and this is an outstanding vintage. It is at once delicate yet intense, floral, lemon curd, juicy ripe lime and caramel syrup over a vibrant mineral acidity that ensures it finishes bright, fresh and clean. And oh so more-ish. Another decade-plus potential wine.
